Dubai offers an amazing array of things to do and see. You can have your own Arabian Nights experience in the desert or amazingly you can even ski. Dubai is surrounded by deserts, sand dunes and the stunning Hajar Mountains.

It is divided by Dubai Creek which is essentially an inlet from the Persian Gulf, splitting the commercial centre of Dubai in two. To me, Dubai Creek is more like a large river, it is very wide. I hired an Abra (water taxi) and went for a ride along the river. It is a wonderful experience being part of the culture and you get to see so many parts of the city that you would not see otherwise.

You get a different perspective of the city.

I recommend getting on the Hop On, Hop Off buses. I always stay on for the first circuit in a new place, it gives you a great overview of the city. Another recommendation is the Gold Souk. A wonderful atmosphere and a great place to buy gold!

Some of the huge shopping malls are a destination themselves. You can spend several hours there just wandering around looking. One of them is divided into different areas. You can visit China. They even have a full sized Junk sitting in water. Persia, Andalusia, Morrocco, Egypt. The architecture is spectacular.

Like I mentioned earlier, at the Mall Of The Emirates, you can even go skiing. It is quite surreal to have very hot temperatures outside and come into an air-conditioned mall and then to be able to go skiing, where it is freezing cold and you need to be rugged up.

Within the city you'll find amazing beach resorts, incredibly high tech buildings, all side by side with old traditional houses and mosques giving you a peek of just what variety you can expect from your time in Dubai.

There are very traditional aspects to the city, including the area around Dubai Creek where the Souks are. As well as glistening shopping malls, top class hotels and wonderful restaurants. With a mix of people from across the world calling Dubai home, it's truly a cosmopolitan destination. I highly recommend a visit to Dubai.

Take a look at the videos I made of my trip, to get a small glimpse into this wonderful city.
