Sarah invited Marly to visit her in the lovely county of Suffolk in England. Sarah has two websites that are great resources for anyone considering a visit to Suffolk. The Suffolk Tourist Guide and The Suffolk Hotels Guide

Suffolk is a long way from home and it was a quite tiring journey so on my first day Sarah very thoughtfully took me to one of Suffolk’s lovely health spa hotels for a little bit of pampering.

Suffolk has a lot of luxury hotels and most of them have been converted from very old buildings like 15th century manor houses and stately homes. We could have played golf as well but we couldn’t find any clubs small enough for me so we gave that a miss.

After the lovely relaxing time at the spa, we went to have some of the famous Suffolk honey in one of the lovely villages in Suffolk, I wonder how Sarah knew I liked honey! I think they must like food and drink in Suffolk because everywhere we went there were tea rooms and pubs and restaurants that had really delicious food and drink, one of the ladies in the Inn told me that Suffolk has lots of small breweries so they get their beers from them and the chef always gets the produce from local sources. We saw even more of the local produce when we went to one of the Farmers Markets and saw loads of organic food grown by small family businesses.

Suffolk has lots of lovely beaches as well and we had great fun splashing about in the sea. There is 45 miles of coastline in Suffolk and we spent a lovely morning sailing on an old yacht around Ipswich. We also went to Felixstowe and saw the huge container ships coming into the port before we went to the old part of the town and had a walk along the coast path. Good job the walk had given me an appetite because the fish and chips we ate afterwards were delicious.

When Sarah said we would stay at the pub I thought she meant we were going to sample too much of that local beer, but I was wrong, she took me to stay at one of the traditional Coaching Inns, the bed was very comfy and the room lovely, in the morning we had a huge breakfast with more Suffolk honey and organic bacon and locally baked bread.

Then it was off for a day at the races! We went to watch some of the finest bloodstock in England racing at Newmarket, I did have a small bet and won! It was an exciting day out and I got to pet the winner.

It’s so hard to say which was my favourite bit of Suffolk, there was so much to see and do. But I think in the end it was probably the honey. Thank you for a wonderful time Sarah.
