Mike's Top Five

by Mike Bell
(Blairgowrie, Scotland)

Edinburgh

Edinburgh

As most of my travel has been between the UK and the USA some of my top five have to constitute a wish list.

First off is my favourite city, Washington DC. My wife Evelyn and I have visited DC on a number of occasions and we always enjoy the experience. I love Sunday morning breakfast at Union Station, sitting on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in the evening and lunching by the Potomac at Washington Harbor.

Number two is New York. I love all the usual tourist stuff like the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park and Greenwich Village. We always head for Carnegies for the best sandwiches and soups in the world and Frankie and Johnnie's for superb steaks and waiters who look like gangsters (I dare you not to leave a tip).

Number three is Edinburgh even though it's less than an hours drive from my home. "The Athens of the North" should be on everyones must visit before I die list. Visit during the festival for the experience of a lifetime.

Four is Rome. It's on the list for early next year.

Five is Venice before it sinks.

Great choices Mike.

I love New York as well. It has been quite a few years since I've been. You can't go to New York and not do the touristy things! The hop on, hop off bus tours are a great way to see the city.

I would like to see Venice before it sinks as well! Rome would be nice.
